How Did Your Parents Discipline You?

My father used the scary, low voice and he actually belted me once when I decided to wear my Iron Maiden jacket when I was told no to.

My mother would throw stuff (knives, plates, salt shakers, small pets, curtains) and yell a lot.

I kinda got the point on what they wanted.

But, I will tell you this, I never got the "1-2-3" bit that parents use these days.

What did your parents/guardians use to discipline you?

My father would beat the shit out of my older brother in front of the rest of us whenever he messed up slightly. Oddly enough, he had very little trouble with the rest of us.

I got the pretty standard ass whoopin. My father used a belt, my mother used whatever was handy, wooden spoon, shoe, whatever. My father used to make me go upstairs and get the belt that he would beat me with. One time I came downstairs with one of those little cloth belts you'd get free on a pair of pants from JC Penny. He just laughed and let me off with a warning.

Also, instead of washing the mouth out with the bar of soap, my mother made me gargle with and then swallow Palmolive dish detergent.

Well there usually was no need for discipline cause I usually obeyed the wishes of my parents. I was nowhere near the level of disrespect that these kids are at today. Like Ronnie said yesterday, the implication that something will happen is stronger than them actually doing something. If I was acting like a complete ass, I got yelled at, or smacked in the back of the head...

I knew of a kid whose younger sibling threatend to call CPS (Child Protective Services) against there parents for trying to discipline them. I made a vow then and there that if I have children, and they ever threaten me like that, they would be dead. I would tell them "Good call the cops now and ask for homicide cause there is going to be a murder..." There is noo wayyyyyy I would ever tolerate such a level of disrespect. Then again it is the parents fault for letting it get that way...

they didn't, really. my mom would yell a lot, but no one really took it too seriously since she did it all the time. my dad would yell rarely, and when he did, you took notice. but that was about it. i was never hit, and can't really remember having much taken away from me or anything like that. i think it's just because i'm so goddamn angelic

My parents disciplined me physically and otherwise. A slap to the head is a direct message & gets results. But I don't think I ever got an ass-whipping I didn't deserve. And I never doubted that my parents loved me.

i dont think they ever successfully disciplined me...i kind of figured out what NOT to do on my own...

sure, they punished me, but they never sticked...they kind of forgot about them, or just backed down entirely...

my mom likes to yell alot...she gets her point across that way...my dad likes to shiver in anger and turn his face red...it was scary when i was a kid, now i laugh at him..

My parents would give me spankings when I was a kid, but it changed to staying my my room when I got old enough that I'd laught at a spanking. I was a pretty good kid, so I didn't get punished all that often. In short, I was a dork.. (past tense?)

my dad use(d/s) me as a verbal/physical punching bag. most of the time he's just frustrated about other things and takes out a very minor thing ((i.e., putting away laundry)) out on me. hasn't been fun, isn't fun now, and im sure when i look back on it i'll need more therapy.

my mom punishes us before we even do anything wrong. for example, i'm not allowed out this week because... well, i wasn't given a specific reason except "well, sooner or later you're gonna fuck up again"

and u wonder why i have the self esteem of an ant.

i got punished... then ignored it. basicaly i was
bigger than my parents when i was about 14, which
is when my fuck up of a brotehr more or less
stopped being around (working, college, girls etc).
so if they hit me i laughed, b/c they usually pulled a
muscle doing it LOL.

and my cars are in their name for insurance
