The thing that gets me is that if it was only one drunk, one inbred hick, and one black albino, then these three people are the most popular people in north jersey. All of the stories and "legends" apparently came from just these 3 people. 3 people out of 3800 that is. With this kind of fame, they should have their own Sitcom.

well, there are many for certain. and there are stories that are just really scary and how many do you hear from people from mahwah and ringwood and i mean...
i just think the bad stories get out more bc well it is like a nightmare that comes true. i mean ..go up on stag hill and have a person stand on their yard and shake their fist at ya and im certain i would tell the story as tho i was in immediate danger.

The Jackson Whites may indeed have a bit of Native American blood, but they are most definitely a mix of many different races. The clans in the Mahwah and Ringwood area do indeed stay to themselves and interbreed, despite what that "Councilwoman" said.

There's a long list of peoples attempting to claim they are Native Americans so as to reap the financial benefits of being designated thus. Her claims that they were denied status merely because they didn't want to give them a casino that would compete with Atlantic City only furthers my doubts as to their authenticity.

Ive lived in the area for a long time. Driving up there in the middle of the night is freaky. Its so dark and the lack of lights dosnt help much. That kind of enviroment does spawn some of these stories, but talking to people who live in the direct area, its all true. Every time I drive up there, I just pray my car dosnt get a flat or break down.

After they talked about these people on the show I did a limited bit of investigating. All I remember is that boats of chicks were delived into Manhattan to service the workers (or soldiers) that were working there. I guess some nice people helped a shit load of them escape into Jersey where they ran into the hills and stayed there and of course, had babies. Fast forward a few hundred years and here we are.

Do these people even really exsist?

no hot tub, they are prob ramapo whatever people. but up here no one would even know, jackson whites is just common place, and since they dont really leave the woods, they never hear people say it to get mad. on the other note, when i first moved to mahwah, i woulda been for a casino, alotta money woulda lowered taxes and stuff, but 7 years later this area got slammed and there is already so much traffic up here it would just be a nightmare. especially since where they wanted to build it only had one road in and out

I was listening to an old Phil Hendrie show tonight and he was talking about the "Jackson Whites" or Ramapough Mountain Indians, an isolated clan of people from the hills above Mahwah. Any of you Jersey folk had any contact with them? They are reported to have a unique appearance, and there is quite a bit of local folklore and myth surrounding them.
