RF.NET OFFICIAL SOFTBALL GAME

That's right kids, it is time to get your asses out on the field for a lil softball. On July 13, in South Plainfield, NJ, we shall prove our athletic prowess on the diamond.

If you don't play softball, that's ok, we have a good cookout area, plenty of room to play frisbee, chill, etc. There is even a jungle gym nearby for the kiddies (and Pooter's dates)

Anyone can play. All that is required is that you are a registered member of the board in good standing. If your friend wants to play, all they have to do is register for the board and post they want to play (there will be a signup thread). If you are banned, you cannot play. If you want to try to appeal a ban, e-mail me and the mods will vote on it. I can't promise anything, but you never know...

Why are we announcing this a month and a half early? Easy! RONFEZ.NET BASEBALL JERSEYS! More on that after the teams are picked.

This is the general discussion thread. If you have any questions or want to talk about it, this is the place to do it. There will be signup threads for food (everyone please offer to bring something if you want to eat/drink something), teams and any others we need.

Everyone will get to order jerseys who want to. There will be a seperate thread, so I can keep track of who is ordering.

Since it's softball, we'll prolly do 7 innings. BUT we'll play two games. Everyone who signs up to play is guarenteed time on the field. Everyone who wants to play will. Anyone who doesn't want to play can get drunk, have lunch, hang out, etc.

anna, no you don't have to signup, if you are coming to just hang. But there will be a thread to organize food as the time grows closer. There is a grill there and we'd like to run the food pot luck. So someone brings beer, another burgers, another napkins and forks, etc.

If you suck, you can still play. The important thing is that you have fun playing.

Captains, team names, etc. will be announced after teams are drafted. But we won't tell who gets picked last, so no one will be embarrassed.

No, like Jon said we want to be invited back again to this field. I'm responsible for any shenanigans or if anything is broken. I'm also responsible for the big clean-up afterwards and I don't want to hear any complaints from the town. I don't think the nearby neighbors would like it too much if it turned out to be a concert. I think boomboxes and such are just fine.

As far as BBQ'n, there is one big BBQ pit there. We used it a year ago and it worked fine then with tons of aluminum foil, charcoal briquettes, and starter fluid. This year who knows what condition it's in, but hopefully it will work just fine.

To be on the safe side, whoever is interesting in EATING, I suggest you bring one of those small portable grills. As for what to bring, I suggest most importantly bring your own booze and coolers. Bring burgers, hot dogs, marinated meats, chicken, sausage, salads, condiments, cups, plates, utensils, BBQ'n utensils, aluminum foil, charcoal briquettes, starter fluid, paper towels, garbage bags, etc....and share if you want.
Now as for how the cooking situation will go, I don't mind flipping a few burgers since I'm not playing, but I'm not going to slave over the grill and I don't expect any of the other girls to either. If anyone, guy included, wants to volunteer, then great. I'm just looking to hang with my peeps. ;)

Below I have directions from pretty much all over the tri-state area. If I missed your area, your best bet is to AIM me at LQQIEEE or send me an email at LQQIEEE@aol.com, and I'll try to help you out. Or if you're brave you can try MapQuest even though it sucks ass.

From: Bronx, Westchester, and Conn. to Veteran's Memorial Park, Elm Street, South Plainfield, NJ:
Take the GWB to NJ Turnpike South.
You will be on NJ Turnpike South for approx. 35 miles.
Take Exit 10 "I-287/RT-440/Metuchen/Edison Twp."
Follow all the signs for "I-287-North"
You will be on I-287 North for approx. 4-5 miles.
Take Exit 4 "Durham Ave/South Plainfield"
Stay to the right off the exit ramp. At the light off the exit ramp make a right. You will pass a Quick Chek on your right. At the 2nd light make a slight right over a bridge onto Hamilton Boulevard. Follow this for 1.3 miles. Make a slight left onto Lakeview Avenue (Over a 2nd bridge). About a ¬ of a mile, make a left onto Elm Street and the park will be on your left. You will be pulling right into the parking lot.


From the Lincoln Tunnel to Veteran's Memorial Park, Elm Street, South Plainfield, NJ:
Take the Lincoln Tunnel, which becomes I-495 West for approx. 2.5 miles.
Take the NJ Turnpike South Exit. You will be on NJ Turnpike South for approx. 24 miles.
Take Exit 10 "I-287/RT-440/Metuchen/Edison Twp."
Follow all the signs for "I-287-North"
You will be on I-287 North for approx. 4-5 miles.
Take Exit 4 "Durham Ave/South Plainfield"

Just got back from mom's house and raided the equipment shed (mom used to be the equip manager of the local little league) and came up with:
- umpires chestguard
- catcher's chest protector (it's little league sized, but incase a smaller girl wants to catch, it should prove handy)
- shin guards (also small, but useable)
- facemasks complete with Yeagers
- 3 bases & home plate

...so looks like we're in good shape...see you all Saturday.
