View Full Version : female artists

i personally listen to very few female artists... and considering how much music i own and listen to, the proportion of female artists in my collection is likely near zero. the only ones i can think of right now that i like are bjork, fiona apple, letters to cleo, sleater kinney, and that's about it (i'm probably forgetting someone, but whatever). i like some old sneaker pimps, but they have a male singer now. i think hope sandoval and sarah mclaughlan have beautiful voices (and gwen stefani's hot), but i never really listen to their music.
so what about you guys? from a "feminist" standpoint, i'm hoping that i just have a thing with male artists and it's not that male artists are just superior. i mean, i guess it's all subjective anyway... but what do you all listen to?

Dar Williams, Ani Difranco, the Neilds, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Tori Amos, Janis joplin, the Indigo girls, dusty springfield, the moldy peaches (one girl, one guy), and many more that i can't think of right now.
It doesn't matter to me what's in their pants, only what's in their gut

female DJs are awesome.
female singers all sound the same today since they are all trying to sound like Sarah Mclaughlin who is trying to sound like Alanis in that nasally sort of way.

Ditto to Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Chrissie Hynde, and Stevie Nicks.
I'll add Nanci Griffith and newcomer Norah Jones to the list.
