i was just listening to "the night" this morning, and started musing about what a great band morphine was... dark, haunting, completely original. from what i know, their instrumentation was fairly unique - sax, bass, drums, and vocals... and no one plays a 2 string bass. mark sandman was such a talented, creative artist... he had great vision, and i personally (along with many others i have read articles and things from) would feel comfortable using the word genius. i was heartbroken when i heard that he had suffered a fatal heart attack at a concert in 99 - "cure for pain" and "like swimming" were two of my favorite albums and it was so sad to see him go. the posthumus "the night" is by far their best work, in my opinion - just another reason why his death was such a grave tragedy. and i never got a chance to see them perform live. so, i'm wondering.. any other morphine fans out there? anyone see them play?

they were good, but they never really had the chance to shine.

I admit, i did like their groove though. I'm a slave to the groove :)

I love Morphine, but I never got to see 'em. I hope I die the same way as Mark Sandman, onstage during a show, doing what I love.

yeah.. it's kind of poetic and beautiful. but, at the same time, if i had been in that audience at the time, i think i'd be too traumatized to ever go to a show again
