Hi all...I am taking a class on exceptional people (aka those with special needs). And have to evaluate how people treat them, do they fit the personality of a person with that dysfunction, etc...I was thinking of movies like The other sister , Rain Man , or Gilbert Grape...anybody else think of other movies??? Ohhhh they dont all have to be retarded (Born on the 4th could be used, loss of limb)

John Sayles has a movie called Passion Fish about an actress who is hit by a car and paralyzed from the waist down. The movie is all about her coming to terms with her condition and her live-in nurse, (Alfre Woodard) with caring for her. Excellent, smart movie that specifically focuses on the subject of care.

Then maybe follow up with Misery on what not to do Mr. Man!

Some others (that you should check out on IMDB if you haven't seen):
My Left Foot
Awakenings
Shine
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Birdy
and don't forget "Busty Backdoor Nurses"

Bill: On His Own (1982) with Mickey Rooney ("Hi, My name's Bill!")

and

"Like Normal People" (1979) with Sean Cassidy and Linda Purl.

Can't say if you'll be able to find them on video but they were good when I saw them.
