The Fraggles was an incredible television show. The only thing second-rate about it was the final puppet to say "Down in Fraggle Rock" in the theme song. This puppet was most likely constructed by a retarded friend of Jim Henson's son as an act of pity. It basically consisted of yarn, a button, and a sock.
The show was a multi-layered exploration of classic literature and philosophy. The travelling Uncle Matt was essentially the escapee of Plato's "The Cave", bringing Fraggles news of a massive world they would never see from within Fraggle Rock, and each letter of his was met with much disbelief.
The Doozers, Fraggles, and Gorgs hierarchy explored the class wars throughout history. Simplified for children into a matter of size, the Doozers were the smallest and therefore responsible for the grunt work in Fraggle Rock society, remniscent of the Soldiers and Slaves of Ancient Rome. They were the most numerous, but because they were smaller and dependant on the Fraggles, they were forced to live a life of servitude. The Fraggles were the middle class, next highest in number. They were loosely organized, working only to sustain themselves, otherwise you could find them loafing around. They often fed on the Doozer's beautiful Doozer-stick structures, displaying a reckless and carefree attitude toward the property of those beneath them. The Fraggles answered to no one, except the mighty Gorgs, massive and inept, they were the fewest in number, but because they were able to reign through terror, they were always at the top of the societal structure.
