There wouldn't have been a cold war because there would have been WWIII.

NATO was created to check Soviet expantionism and aggression. If they had been a member of NATO 60 years ago, they would have rolled all the way through western Europe.

If Russia had joined NATO at it's
creation, NATO would have either
self destructed or expelled them
for stunts like closing off entry
points to W.Berlin leading to the
Berlin airlift.

so, i think the cold war still would
have happened.

its kinda funny, NATO was created to counter the Soviet Union... and now that the former Soviet Union did sign a pact earlier this month, what is NATO gonna fight?

I agree. Now that Russia has
signed an agreement with NATO,
and problems in Bosnia have
calmed down, i think terrorism
will be the focus forthe future.
