I recently heard her song, "Ironic" on the radio. I
like her for the most part, but couldn't ANYONE
explain that those lyrics don't describe anything
"ironic'?

It's merely a list of unfortunate situations or
coincidences. So, isn't this ironic? ... Alanis?

this has always driven me crazy.. i'm glad someone finally brought it up. she has no grasp on the concept of irony. and, yes, that in itself is the most ironic thing about the stupid song. subtext? i'd like to think that maybe she realized this and wrote the song in the hopes that people would get that the things she lists as ironic are not actually ironic, and that they would see and appreciate the irony in that. unfortunately, i really, really doubt it

related but not really...I once a had a teacher in a college course (grad student) ask for the definition of irony on an exam and she actually took points off for people giving examples and not defining it. Irony is one of those things where you can give examples but it is very hard to define. If you look it up in the dictionary the definition is sooooo long.
