it all depends on timing I thin
I have had a long distance relationship... Im at a timing in my life wich I am very busy with my work, school and my musiq... and yeah...
thats all I have to say

what can I do?
what can I say?
is there anyway to get close to you?
I put myself in your shoues
and I walk around these streets of yours
its cold outside
where you stay
but my heart is not far away
take a breath
and close your eyes
I want to hold you
I feel that your eyes are rolled open
and these dreams might holicate deceiving
hoycate this evening
the moon will come down and save me
and your eyes will stop me from falling

I've tried it.. but it just sucks that the other person is never around when you need him/her. I dunno.. it's not something that I would want again..

I tired it when i was travaling all over the country with my last hotel job, it was tough, very tough. And it took alot out of me emotionally and It was hard to go out drinking d have a godotime when your there with love birds and you feel alone...alla alot of my poems in my book are becuase of it. But i ended it when I came back cause i thought it was not fair for me to be there for her, and if I had that job before hand I t woudl have been different cause she would have known what to expect but it is hard..btu if you already know its long distance from the beginning you can make it work..for a while at least

Sometimes they can but in my case it didn't. It was during college. Being apart from the one you love sucks of course but the lack of being together also made us grow apart.

I think they work I'm in one right now it the great relationship I have had. I truly love this woman, we talk the phone,IM each other, write letters, and visit each other every other weekend. IMO it work but it also depends on the people in the long distance relationship

I had one a while back with a girl from Conn. and I live in Jersey. We sometimes meet 1/2 way and the sex was great, but thats all it turned out to be.Not that I'm complaining but I think it could have been more. But we were only two states apart,if your not that far apart and you can see each other fairly often I think it would be much easier. Good luck.

I've was in one for little over a year. She was a wonderful girl, but up in Montreal. The good side was the sex. Also, that crazed feeling whenever we hooked up, that life was a holiday. We only had a few days to squeeze everything we could out of life. The bad side were as Bastard mentioned, going out drinking & seeing other couples in love - that's really tough. But mostly we weren't together when we really needed each other, to overcome life's obstacles. Jeez, I better go pour myself a shot. Good luck.

they are rough. and in my case they dont work out, i have been through 2 (you'd think i'd of learned the first time) and it's worse the more you love the person. it sucks because the only thing keeping you from a person you truely care for is distance.

Not for an extended period of time. Still, you should ask Fezzie for advice. He's managed to maintain a long-distance relationship with his fiance for several years.

Damn Aggie, you found my specialty. I have been in three of them. The first one was an utter disaster the second had me moving out to Chicago so it could fall apart and now I am involved in my third. It is rough but it CAN work. I think the key is that both people have to be extemely comitted to the relationship. Being in a relationship is a full time job but a LDR is like working overtime and having a second job. The bottom line is : If you both want it bad enough you can make it work.

"Pug felt a deep sense of rightness about everything.
He was an apprentice, even if Kulgan seemed
completely unsure of what to do with him.
He was well fed, and on his way to being slightly intoxicated-
which contributed to his sense of well-being. And most of all he
was among friends. There can't be more to life than this, he thought."

Unless you've got the money to see one another almost every weekend, they won't work. I alwys used to think they could, but I think it's the exception rather than the rule if they do...

I have to say that they truly dont work... especially at a young age. Older is a little different, and when I say older I mean 29-65 range. But if this is a person fresh going to college or high school age. Puhhhhlease, move on, there are plenty of poor schnooks out there. Who truly is at that age and wants a relationship??? I mean to truly want a relationship, especially long distance, the first criterea is that both parties CAN NOT look at other people and think that he/she is cute. It is the first and most important factor...Only if you truly loved this person would both parties agree to both. And everyone beware of the people who claim they love you, but truly are looking at others. The ones not looking are the ones who get hurt the worst. (And ladies it doesnt just happen to you).
The second thing that must happen is communication. And I dont mean a phone call everynight. I mean like just being on the same playing field thinking wise (yet not identical). A phone call would be great everynow and again, but true trust comes from this and cannot explain right, right now...

Third is that you both better have the same goals for each other, and not just smoochie woochie, lovie dovie. Cause if there arent any real goals, then there isnt a real long distance relationship. Just gotta confront the facts that there are some situations that cant accomadate your next situation. And I will give an example from my own experiences with this. I had a very serious relationship up at college, but the true fact was at the end of two years we WERE going seperate ways. We were both going to start careers in two seperate places. Did that mean I should hold onto her and her hold onto me?? As far as my heart went, yes. Hold onto her everyway that I could. As far as my head went, no. I had to let us go, let her go. It would not be fair to each other to do that. It is a decision that makes me think "what if", but not something I have let kill me. I have moved on and so has she. We talk every so often, but the talks take place as if nothing ever occured between us. And to me that is a killer...I am sure, yet I am not, that she feels the same. But I at least am afraid to speak so about it...

The point of my whole rant is that you have to make sure a long distance relationship is something that you want. Something that you can do. And something that wont hurt you...that is the point of my reply. If he/she is meant to be, good luck. If not, there are others...just make sure you are ready for either.

they work if the time you spend together is substantial, meaningful, and exciting. if you travel far and do nothing, its not worth it.

think about it from your perspective as well...is it worth the drive? if you say no, end it now..

This is a very touchy subject... but Ive finally come up with a decent answer (took long enough)

long distance relationships are hard. Especcially if you are just 'fond' of the other person. There deffinitely has to be something more... something that drives you to stay loyal when everyone will WANT you to just get it over with and cheat already, and something that just makes you wanna try.

Also.. it helps if you have alot of contact with the person- reguardless ofd how. leave voice mails, emails, talk through IM, phone calls, even mail. Anything that keeps you connected.

I recently got out of a long distance rlationship that wasnt too hot to begin with- so alway have somethng that will make you want to stay attached to this person,
but really, who are we to say wether these relationships would have worked if the people lived across the street from eachother? Were all really young and have so much time to deal with this kind of stuff, and to say they didnt work out just because of the distance might be assuming too much.
