Here's the deal. Infinity was going to syndicate a Hot-Talk format t with Howard as the morning show. They were looking for a mid-day and a pm drive show.

When O&A were thrown out of Boston, Infinity picked them up and challenged them to build an audience in NY. If sucessful, they'd get the pm drive slot.

The next thing was the mid-day slot, and Infinity was considering Ron & Fez, D&M, and The Radio Chick. Because of the DC market, DM got the mid-day slot.

So all of that crap about how it was Don's idea to move to mid-days is just crap.

The only two shows that Infinity really cares about is Stern and O&A. Everyone else is not important.

The only show that's handling this stuff the right way is Ron & Fez. They don't complain. They're just building a huge audience in NY, and letting the chips fall where they may.

Because in the end, it's ratings that are important. Also, Al Dukes' Master degree will guide them through this war.

Please understand the term "DC market" is a bit of a misnomer. Some of the burbs around DC, in Maryland, but mostly Virginia, are suprisingly redneck. You see alot of people eating and smoking at the same time, and when people smile it looks like an ear of Indian corn.

That should explain where Don and Mikes' ratings come from. And it's good that from 11-3 the livestock can relax.

I tried to like them when they first came on, didn't like the format. I only started relistening to them on and after 9/11, but now there just a bunch of babies who can't take the heat in market #1 and now are making exuses on why there not doing well in mid-days. Grow some balls and admit you are being beating because of a comedy format that is old and outdated, oh boy let me guess the serect sound, be more original. People like O&A, the radiochick, ron and fez and even sometime stern come up with some more oringinal bits and better guest than you. And with there new addition I have nothing bad to say about her but Don and mike not the best format for her to fit in, that more for a comedian. Everyone by the end of the summer Don and mike will be no longer on new york radio, especially since they need the summer and spring books to stay alive. And more than likely their rating will drop not just in ny, but in philly, and if D&M get to boston there too

I'm really tired of Don making it sound like he's some kind of hero down here in D.C....he's got the love and respect of the rednecks out in Maryland and outside of Northen VA, and that's it. mrmarcus, I don't think Infinity or ANYBODY was looking towards the future with O&A. It was a discount since they were fired from WAAF. The music thing got phased out as WNEW searched for a new format.

But when success was gained, they wanted syndication. Makes sense. But at the same time, already syndicated Don & Mike were in afternoon drive. WNEW tried tape-delay with D&M but the whole time D&M were pulling for O&A to be moved to mid-days so that D&M could keep afternoon drive. So the "behind the scenes" issues O&A speak of are pretty easy to envision. When D&M made the middays switch, it appeared that all was over: O&A got afternoon drive (including in DC), D&M got NY and Philly. R&F got nights...where I like them.


What's happened the last 2 days is indeed a final plea. If D&M get good numbers finally, they will stay on in NY. But for how long?

Infinity needs to wipe the slate clean or re-evaluate their goals for the format. Becasue the past 2 days haven't been good radio.

During that time, I have heard their last great hope, Leah Reminey, call the show Boring several times and she definately sounds like she was duped into it, not realizing how terrible these guys are. Ok....first of all I would like to know who on this board actually LISTENS to the Don and Mike show aside from the last few days when the war began??? I am an avid WNEW Listener...Starting from 9 and going until 11 pm. I like Don and Mike...and they actually DO support the Ron and Fez show...it is O and A they have a problem with. The one thing don and mike did was to tell the audience to choose...that is something O and A would never have done OR did. It almost feels like a kid whose parents are fighting and ws asked to choose which one you like best. I do not like EVERYTHING O and A do but the same goes for D&M. Don and Mike USED to say it was a good thing that people listend to all the shows...now I think they crossed the line. This is getting too much....I agree that is will most likely come to blows. Looks like Big Ass Night Of Fights III will be a Infinity Battle Royale.

I love how D&M can get from petty to pathetic in the span of 24 hours.

It's not worth my time to listen to old men whine and bitch so I just turned my radio off right around when Don mentioned "The Gregg and Acne" show for the millionth time.

Surprisingly there's not much of a difference when you turn the radio off and when you have the radio on the D&M show. I suggest everyone try it.

D&M remind me of a child who wants attention so he/she picks a fight with the popular kid so he/she can get noticed.

If you ignore it, it will eventually go away. Lets all hope it happens sooner then later.

Technically, they are a D.C. show seeing as how they broadcast from WJFK, but saying that makes it sound like if u live in D.C., u listen to Don and Mike. Since thats not true, lets not call them a "rural VA and Maryland show" either.
Just call them a "show for the people who find them funny" show. I live in southern Maryland (waldorf) where there are alot of rednecks and obese people who are to lazy to park the car and then walk to the K-Mart they have to get dropped off at the door. i hate it here. I only know one person who listens to Don and Mike. Everyone else i know listens to O&A and the ones who i said "u should listen to ron and fez to" to, now listen to RnF as well. I gave D&M a chance during spring break and i only laughed a few times. Those laughs were during the commercial break because some of the commercials are kinda funny. I dont get home from school until 3 so i miss their so entirely and i get to come home to 12 straight hours of good radio (O&A, the junkies, R&F). where was it that don and mike said they were 12+ or something, where they are #1 to listeners 12 and older. arent most listeners 12-18 in school during the D&M show? And no teenager could like them enough to tape them. so i dont see how that is possible.
the only reason Don and Mike ARE succesful in the DC area is because theyve been there for 15 years, and during the majority of those 15 years there was nothing else worth listening to. RnF and O&A are pretty new and the die hard don and mike fans whove been listening to them for so long dont want to listen to anything else.
I cant stand music radio like HFS and DC101 cause all they do is loop the same 10 gay songs over and over. I hate all radio except RnF, O&A and the junkies. Don and Mike are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

What the hell has happened between Don and Mike and O&A?

When D&M first moved to NYC it seemed like the two teams thought highly of each other.

I don't get to listen a lot anymore, but when I do, quite frankly, I don't find a lot to recommend EITHER show anymore, and I've been D&M fans for 10 years.

I first heard O&A a year ago before they came to DC (I was in NYC on business) and they blew me away. Now it's just the same thing, and getting tired fast.

To that end, Ron & Fez are getting VERY VERY tiring. Time delay here in DC, but at 11 p.m. I know it's "Let's bash Al the Fag for the next 4 hours!" Christ that gets tired. Shoot Al, frame Billy Staples, and get rid of BOTH of them.

Quite frankly, D&M isn't a show originating out of a rural area. Fairfax County has just shy of a million people. Not NYC, but it's not rural by any stretch of the imagination. I wish to God it was.

Pretty much because for the longest time they were the only thing going. For a major U.S. city, D.C. options, for either talk or music radio, are downright dismal. D&M were a lot of fun for close to a decade, but they stayed in the game too long and fell too in love with the money and stopped caring. They haven't had a good show in over five years.

Well let me tell you something. First of all we know how you feel about Opie and Anthony through obvious circumstances and we know how you feel about Ron and Fez due to your little slip up, calling them "Ass Kissers". Do you know what they call that in the buisness Don? "Carrer suicide". Im not even gonna get deep into how awful your show is. I am one of those people who made a valid attempt to like Don and Mike, but it just wasn't possible. Worse than being unfunny, they are just boring. They are the audio equivalent of watching paint dry. Although, now that the war is on I will catch them so I can allow my anger to build.

I remember they once were complaining that WNEW was doomed to fail because none of the shows cooperated or liked each other. But if you take Don and Mike out of the mix, who doesn't get along on that station? O&A will even talk up Brother Weeze, who we only hear once a week in repeats.

I can't imagine what people who do listen to Don and Mike are finding so entertaining. My only reasonable explanation for their high ratings in DC is that everyone falls asleep listening to them, and can't turn off their radios in time.

The bottom line is that your guys got mid-days in NY in Aug. 2001, and they failed to get ratings. Failed!

Don't let bad editing keep you from great comedy. They butcher up The Reef on other stations. When I was in San Francisco the station actually COMBINED the Imus show with the Don & Mike show and the result was a confusing mess. (20 minutes of each show on & off)

My question is this; why does Infinity pour so much $$ into Dn'M?? Are they pulling huge numbers anywhere else? Does anyone actually faithfully ENJOY their show? Why all the station support? They don't seem to fit the format of WNEW at all. The station tends to skew younger and DnM just don't have the appeal. They would draw huge audiences on AM radio. Or maybe even some Sunday morning FM, but they are sorely out of place on WNEW. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I talk to changes the station the minute DnM come on. To be honest... I would rather hear the news or even commercials. Their show goes nowhere... SLOWLY! If Infinity wants to give away money they should give all the other shows a raise and make them each do an extra hour to make up for the time that would be free after they remove DnM. And as Forrest Gump once said "that's all I have to say about that".
