The red, white and blue ball. The creation of the 3 point shot. The great giveaways and promotions at games. The ABA was fun, I would attend New York Nets games at Nassau Coliseum and see Julius Erving, Billy Paultz, Bill Melchioni, House Jones, Rick Barry and countless others take on the Kentucky Colonels, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Utah Stars and many other franchises.
Before they built the Coliseum, the Nets played in small arenas, Sunnyside Gardens in Queens was among them.
On TV, the late great Marty Glickman did the play by play. The games were always high scoring, and a lot of fun. Anyone?

I can only vouch for what I have seen in old footage, not being old enough to see it first hand. Most footage of games that I have seen have been classic, much better in fact than most NBA games this past season.
And by the way, NIke gets a BIG F-U for tarnishing the ABA with those damn "Funk" commercials.
"Glory be, the funk's on me bop..well uh, it's 1975 ya'll"..Dammit man, now that commercial will be in my head for the rest of the night

Amen!
Most people don't realize that many NBA greats were in the ABA:
Julius Erving
George Gervin
Rick Barry
Moses Malone
Artis Gilmore
Dan Issel
aand many many more!

When I was a kid, my parents bought me a basketball net for the backyard, and I was so pumped it came with the red, white and blue ball of the ABA!
I sucked at basketball, however, and soon learned that Hockey was my true calling.
I'm hopelessly white.

I was the "Marvin Barnes" in the schoolyards of Bay Ridge. I smacked my opponents with a metal pipe. No clue about Marvin Barnes? Look it up!

The ABA, back when huge 'fros roamed the earth.
I remember seeing Dr. J, I think a member of the Nets back then, take off from the foul line and dunk. This was in a game, not a slam-dunk contest.

It is just you Lent. There is absolutely no reason to show Carter, Duncan etc in mock ABA games. Absolutely absurd.

Everybody talks about baseball player Oscar Gamble's "Afro".
Artis Gilmore of The Kentucky Colonels blew him away! He looked like a huge used Q-Tip.
Damn my staright golden locks..I want black guy hair!

Whenever I tell people I'm a Nets fan, I always have to explain that they used to play at the Coliseum. They moved years before I was born, but I always hated the Knicks.

remembertheaba.com is a trip.
I had a George "The Iceman" Gervin poster as a kid. I also loved David "Skywalker" Thompson.
I had an ABA ball. It got one of those seam breaks where the inside bladder popped out like a tumor. We used to still play with it and it was pretty funny when the ball hit on the popped out herniated spot.

I'm still kicking myself for not going to any Virginia Squires games. Dr. J, Iceman Gervin, Charlie Scott......hell, they often played in high school gyms!. Tix were like 5 bucks or something.

Tix were like 5 bucks or something.
Same with the Nets. They played in some dumps and free tickets were easy to get.
Remember David Thompson? He was Jordan before there was a Jordan when it came to flying, along with the great Dr. J.
As for George Gervin, there were very few who had his shooting skills.(Maravich and Bird perhaps).

one thing that sticks in my mind is the way the announcer would accentuate Willie Sojourner's last name when he scored...
SOOOOOUUUUUUJourner...
a pretty cool last name, reminds me of Soul Journey and that's farout...

David "Skywalker" Thompson scored 72 ponts in a game while on the Nuggets. Unfortunately, he got into trouble with cocaine and ruined his career.
George Gervin and his "finger roll" = love.

What do you mean "remembering" the ABA.
The American Bar Association has been around for many many years, and from the dues they collect they'll have no trouble remaining solvent.
