There are many, but I would say both The Kinks and The Animals get the shaft with all of the Beatle and Stones hype.

I've always felt the Guess Who never got their proper respect. Take a look at the hits - "These Eyes", "American Woman", "Undun", "No Time", etc.

Awesome band.

I feel the same way about:

The Grass Roots
The Turtles
Tommy James and The Shondells
The Beach Boys
Jay and The Americans

The Kinks and The Beach Boys definitely. They get stereotyped by their hits too easily when they have so much more great music on their lesser-known albums.

Iggy Pop!
He's put out SO MUCH great shit and never gets recognized. It's so annoying. Maybe with those Carnival Cruise commercials more people will run out and buy "Lust for Life." But it shouldn't take a TV commercial. And his live show is ALWAYS excellent. I've seen him about 5 times at 5 different places and every show was full of energy and fun.

OLP plays big big venues in Canada so, I can't really call them under-rated.&nbsp; It IS bizarre that they play to 160 people in the US and 20,000 in Toronto though.

Canadians are also force fed Canadian music.&nbsp; There's an actual
law that states Canadian radio must spend a certain number of minutes
per hour playing Canadian artists.<br />

Either as a solo artist or with the James Gang, Joe Walsh never gets the credit for the brilliant songwriter/guitarist that he is.

The James Gang was one incredible band during his short stay with them, and are definitely underrated in the annals of Classic Rock.

Amen on Big Wreck. I thought I was the only person who knew about them.
For me, the greatest band nobody ever heard of was a power-punk (with a ton of horns) band out of Alabama called Pain. They did three albums, all of which are fantastic. Sort of a ska sound, but just straight punk, but not Blink 182 shit. Their lyrics are actually written for adults, with a lot of dark humor including nun-killing and redneck jokes. It's nearly impossible to be sad while listening to their music, because it's just so relentlessly energetic. They were active throughout the late 90's, but they're pretty much broken up now.
I've also gotten more into the Decemberists lately. They're sort of like Belle and Sebastian, but they write incredible music and Most people have still never heard of them, but they're still up and coming.

I always felt the Pixies never got there due, it is a simple fact that if there was no Pixies there would be no Nirvana. Black Francis invented the slow down, scream, rip an then slowdown again. Listen to Tame, its Cobain a few years earlier.&nbsp;
