Weed vs. Alcohol

OK people, I know some of you are going to agree with me, but I want to discuss which one people think is worse....

First of all, for the sake of argument we should diregard that weed is illegal, I'm just looking at how either drug affects the body.

I did not used to think this, but after more thought, I came to the conclusion that weed is less harmful than alcohol. I will admit I have not done much research on this, but in the little I've looked for on weed, I found more positive articles about how it can be helpful in treating diseases rather than causing them.

Alcohol kills thousands of people every year and I have seen first hand what it can do to people. It impairs the body more than weed, people get much more out of control while drinking than smoking (especially driving) , and if people argue weed leads to other drugs....then I would say drinking every weekend, will lead to drinking every day, and that will lead to alcoholism.

These aren't hard facts yet, but I just wanted to throw this out there to see what you guys think. I just want people who drink ALOT and look down on smokers just because it's illegal to really think about how they each affect you.....

According to the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency, 105,000 Americans die annually from alcohol-related causes which could include everything from falls to drunk driving accidents to cirrhosis of the liver. neither are really good for you, but i'd say that alcohol is much worse, and is much more likely to kill you, and possibly others around you.

There have been dozens of studies suggesting that light drinking has health benefits:

1) Heart health - Regular consumption of small amounts of alcohol has been shown to lower the risk of heart attacks in middle-age people by roughly 30-50%. Alcohol appears to raise levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol & may help prevent blood clots, reducing the likelihood of a heart attack, stroke, or other problems.

Longer life - A recent American Cancer Society study of nearly 500,000 men & women found that a drink a day can cut your risk of premature death by about 20%.

Stroke prevention - Two studies in the last two years have found that light alcohol consumption significantly reduces the risk of the most common kind of stroke (ischemic stroke).

Other - Light drinking also has been shown to reduce the development of arterial blockages in the legs. And it may help lower your risk of age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in people over age 65.

Preliminary evidence also suggests that small amounts of alcohol may protect against senility and Alzheimer's disease.

I'm not saying that alcohol is all bad. I've heard a glass of red wine a day can be good for you. I just want people who are only drinkers that look down upon weed to understand it is at least on the same level as alcohol if not better...I'm not knocking drinking....

I've smoked a lot of weed before I moved here (about a year ago) and lost my hookup... I had a very low key supplier that was reliable and always with the best shit. I had an 8yr partnership with the buy and there was nothing good business and good vibes.

Since I moved here and I started drinking to get high I've put on about 18 pounds, I'm always hangovered and tired and for some reason always in a bad mood.

If I could get a low key, reliable source, I'd go back to the glory days of the bud...

So if you ask me, bud beats the bottle any day of the week.

OK, obviously this is a strictly individual opinion. Some of you mentioned the fact that alcohol makes people 'start fights' or 'get on the road and kill'. In my opinion, these are people who are already fucked in the head. Alcohol doesn't make a sane, rational person go bazonkers, or make a responsible person get behind the wheel and mow down a family of 5. A drug's effect is greatly correlated to the state of the person taking it.

when i was younger i loved the pot and hated the hooch. but i would deffinately have to say that liquor is more dangerous. you will find that people will get into more fights while drunk while a stoned person usually doesnt have the will to move. also, you must take into consideration that rapes are also more frequent when the raper is intoxicated. i can tell you for a fact that when i used to smoke the weed that i barely had the motivation to spank let alone perform a full on rape, not saying that would ever commit something that awful. So im gonna say that alcohol is worse for you.

but i just cant smoke weed. no matter how many times they say its good for you and stuff. its still illegal to have.

i'll agree that laws for drug posession are a bit too harsh and many people (esp. minorities) end up in jail for a while for having a joint or so. I cant take that risk.

My suitemate (not my "know it all" wannabe roomate in that other thread i posted) sold weed to everyone on campus.

He's from New Haven and dresses thugish. He's white. (but he has a black gf, go fig) What really matters that if i started selling drugs myself, i'd be in Jail locked up faster than you can say, Al Dukes is gay. My suitemate would probally get a slap on the wrist.

Thus this is why i dont touch teh weed.

When I am drunk, I make phone calls that I shouldn't. I also dont think straight. I like to be high....But, I have already had a six-pack in me while I am typing this so maybe my opinion doesn't count.
