Two jobs I had last summer are downsizing this year due to sept 11 pressures and aren't taking back those of us on school leave due to those problems, so now I have a few tough choices to make.
schools done and I NEED A JOB!!!!!

I REALLY dont wanna work retail for crap money so I was thinking what else I could do and need some advice.
Im a theatre/video student leaning more toward directing or stage management than anything else but I thought maybe I could go door to door on broadway and see if they need anything? a concession stand help, a costumer, a prop manager? Its kinda clique but may work.
Does anyone think thatll work, or KNOW of anyone whos done that?
otherwise I guess I could go to video/photography laces and apply, editing or what not.
Does anyone else have any other ideas?

choice #2- internships are MANY in this business, but dont pay at all, so should i struggle to find a job, or would you suggest interning??
HELP

i would say go for college theater jobs.. the theater business in NYC is union.. so it is hard rackette to get into.. you actually have to take test and all. i work for my college theater while in college and got paid well enough.. so i would say go to colleges and see what is up with them.. it will get you some experience in your area of interest too.. good luck..
hey maybe i will run into you one day...

This is tough. Obviously having a steady income far outweighs having to struggle to make ends meet.

However, an internship can be beneficial. A few years ago, I left a very good paying job (in a field I really didn't want to be in) to take an unpaid internship (in the field I did want to be in. It sucked having no money and living off Ramen Noodles and Macaroni and Cheese but, in a short time, it turned into a paying job. It also led to better opportunities because, after making this small "sacrifice" I got the work experience that future employers look for.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :)
