I'm STILL reeling!

That's so sad that you made the Baby Jesus cry.

See that guy on the left? That's Paul. That album is from 1981 and had a huge punk influence. You might want to check that one out.

That was just a cheap shot, just because I am old. Couldn't come up with anything better eh?

Cassettes-- I remember them well. They were popular when you used to dress like a member of Duran Duran.

i brought this thread back up only to apologize for prior comments i made about who paul westerberg was. I recently bought "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash", and have been overwhelmed by their awesome. I have also since then learned of their influence and contributions to said genre, (namely through books such as 'Our Band Could Be Your Life'), and would like to apologize for not educating myself before making asking stupid questions. At the time of those comments, i was ill-informed, and oblivious to the awesome that the Replacements were responsible for. i hope you will accept my apologies, and i thank you for reading.

They were so punk rock that the bass player, "Little" Tommy Stinson, went on to join Guns 'n' Roses.

I had a dream last night that Axl died.

That'd be a shame.

Fuzzybutt sed Skidmark "...used to dress like Duran Duran."

Has he shown you his license from that era?

"I've got your old ID and you're all dressed up like The Cure." - Ben Folds Five (decidedly not punk rock)

For better of for worse, bringing this thread back to life also brought back the Chairman.

Paul Westerberg is God.

The Replacements were the BEST band of the 1980's.

Saw him 2X this year and he still rocks.
Now go and buy ALL Replacements albums.

Trivia: The Name of the High School in the movie Heathers was Westerberg High because PW/The Mats are favorites of Winona Ryders and Cameron Crowe.

The Replacement's song "Within Your Reach" from their album Hootenanny is in the movie "Say Anything."

I can go on and on....

Despite Kaga's possible horror, I only have "Hootenanny" and up...the early stuff someone copied for me on tapes years ago, yet I haven't mustered up the desire to convert them to CD...but I've got all the 'Mats albums from "'Nanny" on up, including the greatest hits/B-sides comp, all of Westerberg's solo albums (Actually have "Mono" as a single CD, not the "Mono/Stereo" combo), and all the comps and soundtracks Paul is on, including the dreaded "Friends" soundtrack...

Mojo that's pretty good. Sorry Ma and Stink are great though and their back catalog has been remastered and reissued....

The Friends soundtrack does suck.

The real question: do you have the Tank Girl Soundtrack that Paul appears on?

That's true, but they misspelled it in the movie, and it's actually Westerburg High.

Also, I don't think Cameron Crowe had anything to do with Heathers.

Oh yeah, and Westerberg IS god.

Good catchl. A true Mats fan. i knew that but underestimated the base here and figured people wouldthink I spelled the name wrong. It is Westerburg High. I was sober last night, therefore anal about spelling. Tonight I am "High", therefore I spelled the "High" correctly.

PS - Matt Dillon is also a huge Mats fan. I always used to see him at their shows...

Interesting Paul Westerberg interview. (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/06/celeb.paul.westerberg.ap/index.html) Apparently, Paul tried to get the Replacements back together for a benefit.

Well, Paul WAS talking shit about Tommoy and G&R in a few magazine interviews in the last couplea years, which got Tommy pissed off and saying he wouldn't do a Mats replacement in at least the near future.

things seem less tense than in the past, i heard tommy being interviewed and there seemed to be little or no acrimony ...

what you gotta love about the 'mats, is that it's the only band where the fans still refer to the band members by their first names ...

there's just genuine love for that band ...
