Wow, this is like the SUPER geeky thread!
I'd say the classic Dark Phoenix storyline. Claremont was at his best. It's sad to see how good he was in this era, compared to how godawful he is now.

"Days of Future Past" issues 141-142 (i think)
Alternate future issues rule in any comic book, but here with the Byrne art...superb!

Tom, That's the Age of Apocolypse. probably the best in recent years.

Geek test, I passed...
99% of the X-Books changed titles for four issues (X-Factor became Factor-X, Excalibur became X-Calibre, X-Force became Gambit & The Externals, etc.)
Anyway, they put out small four ish trades for each of them with nifty gold covers. Most stores with backlogs in their trades should have them.

I loved when Storm had her Mohawk haircut, the Reavers were kicking the smack out of the X-Men , and Claremont was writing (I think).

Claremont was a god when it came to 80's X-Men. His 90's stuff is just not doing it for me.. I'm enjoying Spiderman so much more. But here is a little bit of random trivia to fill your geek closet:
Mystique was originally not supposed to be Nightcrawler's Mother.. but his FATHER! She and Destiny (who have a very subtle relationship) were supposed to be his parents, but because of the weird gender-bending issues it brought up (remember this is during the 80's) Marvel nixed it but quick.

I remember Mystique back in the second Brotherhood of Evil Mutants days. They hinted that there was a connection between nightcrawler and mystique but they weren't going to reveal it. Like it was hard to guess. blue skin, yellow eyes without pupils....hmmm.
BTW How does one recruit for the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? Put out an ad in the paper?
WANTED: Mutant. Must be evil.

Faves were:
After Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix Saga. Alternate Realities always kick ass

I'm going back a bit, but I think the original Alpha Flight stories were the best. I especially like the first Vindicator issue (109 I think) When he came to claim weapon X, aka Wolverine, I think the early Uncanny issue Are superior because every one was just learning each others powers at the same time we were.

Alright, let me change the discussion to ask a different question: Who's your favorite X-Men villain?
Mine is Apocalypse, followed by Sinister. Then maybe Magneto.

I'll have to go with Strife, Cable's clone.

I was thinking Magneto, Mr. Sinister, but I think I have to go with Apocalypse.

Mine is the X-men's bloodiest adventure, Mutant Massacre. Completely blew me. The X-Men go in to save the Morlocks and get completely ripped to shreds. Shadowcat & Colosus are virtually maimed, Nightcrawler comatose. Wolverine goes one on one with Sabertooth, and Betsy Braddock (the original, not the character-assasinated version) proves her mettle. Powerful stuff, and unlike contemporary crossovers, it had consequences that lasted for years.
