while that's true, that's not really a reason for them to have not made it bigger. i mean, there are plenty of other bands that started out on college radio and then managed to do fairly well in more commercial arenas - much better, at least, than all of the bands i've seen people mention here

definitly etown concrete,
madball, sick of it all, indecision, minor threat & a
bunch of nyhc bands- hardcore never became a big
thing & thats sad cause most of the lyrics contain
such positive messages but its stereotyped into
punk genre and seen as anarchy- its a shame what
people miss when they dont listen.

sneaker pimps had one or two hits but are way
more talented than people give them respect for,
the dandy worhols too,

my favorite kinda success is when everyne knows
the bands name but few people can name the band
members o more than two songs.
deftones is a good example of that,
and jamiroquai.. oo i love that guy and his lil hat
from 1998.

I'm glad two of my favorite bands (Quicksand and The Poster Children) got a mention. Not many people remember Quicksand, and not many people even know about P-Kids. Fortunately, the Poster Children are still making records and touring. I most recently saw them on the DDD tour at Maxwell's and they were awesome. I also agree Fountains of Wayne should've been bigger, but to be honest, Utopia Parkway wasn't their best effort. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album, but not their best work.

For my entry, even though they still record and tour, I think Superchunk should've been bigger.

Oh yeah...and Built To Spill really should be bigger than they are. I was really happy to hear them in the background on Six Feet Under a few weeks ago. Claire was in her room and "You Were Right" was playing in the background.

i mean, there are plenty of other bands that started out on college radio and then managed to do fairly well in more commercial arenas
like little bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana?

And to add more bands:
Teenage Fanclub
Sister Soleil

members o more than two songs.
deftones is a good example of that,

Teething, 7 words, engine #9, Around the Fur, My own Summer, Be Quiet and Drive, Back to School, Passenger...

I don't think Deftones really ever got "big" and should be much bigger, I remember thinking how much Limp Bizkit sounded like them when they first came out, and it annoys me how big Bizkit is now, while Deftones are much more talented.... IMO....

Thanks to Hosp for the Idea:
