I got into this debate with my boss the other day. WHo do you think would win, and based on what?

I had to go with Darth Vader here, not only cause of the force factor, but because he's got the death star backing him up.

Vader would probably win against Gandalf the Grey.

But of course, when Gandalf dies as Grey, he'll just resurrect as Gandalf the White, in which case Vader is fucked royally.

You forget that Vader cut off his own son's hand! That shows he has no mercy. WHo would cut off their own child's hand just to prove a point that he(luke) wasn't a real jedi yet? Not Gandalf, i can tell ya that much.

first off, Gandalf didn't die and become resurrected - he just fought a great battle and emerged stronger than before. <P>
Gandalf would OF COURSE win, because he is a Maia, while Darth Vader, despite the high mitichlorian count in his blood, is a mere human. Gandalf is infinitely better able to withstand the forces of evil (the dark side, if you will) than Darth Vader (clearly, since he succumbed to them) is. Gandalf is stronger than Darth Vader could ever hope to be, stronger than even the emperor. <P>
The only confounding factor is where exactly Palpatine and Darth Vader GOT their dark powers from - for example, the Nazgul were once humans but Sauron (another maia, like Gandalf) put basically all of his power into their bodies so they were quite a match for even Gandalf. <P>
