I know that people feel that there are causes to fight for, but lot's of activism gets on my nerves. From truth.com to the wto people, I'm sick of it. I don't think that it really does anything to solve anything. It's arrogant and ineffective. I don't care how far this thread goes, but I haven't been on the board for a while and thought I'd post.
HUGS!!

So lay down and do what is told of you...that is what you want in life? No reason to fight back, no need to fight back...It matters not that you agree/disagree with people who are activists. What matters is that they have that freedom to do so, and you have freedom to disagree with them. If they wish to protest peacefully then they should be allowed to do so. You may/may not be put into a position someday where you will have to stand with co-workers to protest something, and then you may understand what it is that activists do...They are only exercising there freedom to disagree. And besides they are attacking the evil that is corporations...
I give you something to think about in this excerpt from "The Lost World", something to think about when it comes to the WTO...
In ten thousand years human beings have gone from hunting to farming to cities to cyberspace. Behavior is screaming forward, and it might be nonadaptive. Nobody Knows. Although personally, I think cyberspace means the end of our species
It means the end of innovation, this idea that the whole world is wired together is mass death. Every biologist knows that small groups in isolation evolve fastest. You put a thousand birds on an ocean island and they'll evolve very fast. You put ten thousand on a big continent, and the evolution slows down. Now for our own species, evolution occurs mostly through our behavior. We innovate new behavior to adapt. And everybody knows the innovation only occurs in small groups. Put three people on a committee and they may get something done. Ten people, and it gets harder. Thirty people, nothing happens. Thirty million, impossible. Thats the effet of mass media-it keeps anything from happening. Mass media swamps diversity. It makes every place the same. Bangcock or Tokyo or London: there's a McDonalds on one corner, a Benneton on another, a Gap across the street. Regional differences vanish. In a mass-media world, theres less of everything except the top ten books, records, movies, ideas. People worry about losing diversity in the rain forest. but what about intellectual diversity-our most necessary resource?? Thats dissappearing faster than trees. But we havent figured that out, so now we are planning to put five billion people together in cyberspace. It'll freeze the entire species. everything will stop dead in its tracks. Everyone will think the same thing at the same time. Global Uniformity.

You know the one's that I hate are those whining little Boston Tea Party pussies. With all their "DOWN WITH THE STAMP ACT!!" and their "NO SUGAR TAX!!" and their "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!" crap!
Get a job, hippies!
And then there's those abolitionists crybabies, with their "SLAVERY IS IMMORAL!!" and "ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL!!" bullshit! Fucking Commies!
Then there's the labor movement! Jesus Christ, those babies! Crying all the time about 80 work weeks and child labor, and no contracts, and workplace safety laws and collective bargaining and on and on... getting their heads bashed in and fired and all that! Big babies, I say.
Then the ultimate liberal propaganda - feminism! Women wanting to vote? Yea, that's great Toots. Put down the sign and make me a sandwich! I'll tell you what's going on in the world as soon as you're finished with the dishes! And hurry up - there's a big war coming up and I'm gonna need you to work my job for a couple a years, then you can go back and make some dinner.
And civil rights!! Give me a break! It says separate but EQUAL!! What more do you want? If states want to treat you like shit, then that's their right. Now shut up and get in the back!! Uppity agitators!
And the real traitors... Those people who didn't believe it when Johnson said that Vietnam attacked us at Tonkin. Or that they needed a better explanation than "Communist aggression" to go across the globe and kill or die! Pussies! Pentagon Papers my ass!!! You go to war when you country tells you to!! ...I'll be over here in the National Guard because my dad's a Senator... But YOU shouldn't question authority! And we're not in Cambodia, Nixon and Kissinger said so. Take a shower hippie!!!
Yea, activism pisses me off.

Nice way to put it yourdaddy...I like the sarcastic nature too...lets face it activists help you make an opinion. Without them you wouldnt know what to think or feel about a subject...they give you a reason and other people a reason to bitch...

i hope you know that not all feminists were/are dykes.
without activism, the world would be a lot different. everyone who fought for better in the past helped us. where do u think you would be if it weren't for activists? most likely not in front of your computer reading this, but probably in a sweat shop, working for next to nothing. remeber the past, live for today, and look foward to tomorrow....
i am the inner child..... quiet, sensitive, and shy

what is the opposite of activism? sitting there on your lazy ass while things you hate go on in the world, but being too indifferent or too afraid to make a difference. You say that activism doesn't change a thing, but as yerdaddy and doogie have already pointed out, its the only thing that ever makes a change.
this country is founded on activism. how ironic that citizens of our nation are so disgusted by the ideals that are the core of our country
TRUE PATRIOTS FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!!!

Hi. My name is Yerdaddy, and I am an activist. And I hate chants. I've protested here in DC on accasion, and when it comes time to chant, I'll be honest - I'm faking it. "Hey hey! Ho ho!"?? Can't do it. For a group of people so opposed to conformity, there's just no imagination at most of these small protests. There's some cool things going on at the big ones, (of course you'll never see them on TV because the only thing TV news is interested in is the 50 or so out of a crowd of 10,000 that are kicking in windows and provoking the police to kick their heads in because they hate their parents. Cameramen follow them around like they're Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston going out for a mochaccino. Here's a news flash, (that surprised even me), most people at a big protest know why they're there.
Still, I prefer the rest of what activism is all about: work. I love lobbying and research and writing about issues. Hey hey! Ho ho!

I can imagine, Dark. I get the Marciellis Wallace treatment from my non-activist friends whenever there's a protest in the news. "Are you chaining yourself to a spotted owl?" "Did you free Mummia yet?" "Defeated the evil Starbucks Empire yet?" The sad thing is I had to make up most of those lines myself.
