Ok so monday i was at Shea for Opening Day.. Getting there was not really a problem went decently fast... Now i am driving from ridgefield park area.. Ok so here is the point, my friends and i waited an hour or so before leaving after the game.. so around 5 we left the parking lot...and then we proceed to sit in 3.5hrs of traffic.. now why in the name of god would you people put yourselves through this on a daily basis.. i wanted to just start ramming all the other cars so i could get back to jersey.. i just don't think i would own a car if i had to put with that shit every day.. man just fucking nuts....

I don't know how people deal with having to do the alternate side parking thing everyday, what a pain in the ass that is. Just finding a spot everyday sucks by itself, and then you can't even leave it there 4 days a week.

When you say NYC do you just mean Manhattan? Because I live in Queens and I'd go nuts w/o my car. Queens is very flat and spread out, I need my car. And I'd guess it's the same in the other boroughs.

Cake or Death? Uh, I'll have the cake please.

What jamesdiggy says. Living in Queens, you need a car. How else do you get around?

When I go to Shea I take the 7 train.

I grew up in Manhattan though
now I just moved. I had a car. I
parked it in my garage.

How the hell are you supposed
to get out of the city without a
car?

Or maybe rural pursuits are
restricted to those who don't live
in Manhattan, I don't know. I
didn't realize I wasn't allowed to
leave the island.

What I DON'T understand is
people in NYC who have cars and
use them to get from point A to
point B within the city. That's just
fucking dumb.

Well I live in Queens as well, and I have to agree, you DO need a car. The same with brooklyn and the other boroughs. The thing with Manhatten, is all the trains and buses are usually packed, or not on time, so the smart thing to do is drive to your destination, then pay a fortune in parking.

i'm curious how many people who live and work in nyc, or path accessible nj, do not own a car?

i fall into this category, and while occassionally inconvenient, i manage to get where i need to go whether its family in northern nj, or my friends wedding in d.c. this weekend.

Some people just don't like riding in trains or buses. I hate public transportation.
I'd rather be in my car with my music.

I live in Manhattan and have a car. I need it for work and park it in a garage. Or on the street in front of my building if I get lucky enough to get a spot.

I'd go crazy if I didn't have a car to get out of the city. There's nothing like cranking the tunes, northbound on the Henry Hudson parkway on my way to New England to take a few days chill time.

I live in Queens and to get to the nearest public transportation is a hitch hike of 2.5 miles and thena bus that runs sporadically just to get to a train to Manhattan. I used to drive each day into Manhattan and park the car downtown. Leaving work it was great only 25 minutes home and not that bad traffic. And still get a swim in every summer afternoon.

Well another day gone and the beer needs to be flowing again

I think that was the exact point that I made. I need a car to get out of the city. But still, I do NOT need a car say if I want to pop over to the bookstore or hit a museum or something. Why deal with the hassle of parking and traffic? the subway is so much faster.

I lived in queens for 2 years, one year without a car. made life very difficult.

The other reason you ould need a car while in the city, even manhatten, is to get out of the city!

I need a car because I'm not tough enough to ride the 7 train in Queens.
