Heckler I have a question for you. I kind of wondering about something.
Was Star Trek the Motion Picture one of the first TV shows that was made into a full length movie or was there other tv based movie?

Gunsmoke started on the radio, then went to TV, then had it's first movie in 1958(?). I think the same goes for The Lone Ranger. Superman came out a year before Star Trek, ('78/'79 respectively).

Thanks.... but I don't think the Superman movie was based on the 1950's TV show

It is funny that back in the day Hollywood would make a movie and then they would have a tv show later.
Please Don't eat the daisies, the Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Hogans Heroes, Alice, and MASH are a few that I remember but now they have to steal British tv shows to make new shows. Hollywood is making movies of tv shows.
Brady Bunch, Mission Impossible, Scooby Doo, Twilight zone.

We want Ron and Fez live in DC.

Marty & The Days of Wine and Roses were both TV Dramas(Playhouse 90 I believe) before they were movies. But they weren't weekly series. Oh wait, what about the 1966 Batman movie w/ Adam West and Burt Ward? That was made during the run of the series on TV.

Cake or Death? Uh, I'll have the cake please.

Great question. I need to think about this one. I remember seeing "Batman" in the theater. I know there were many others..hmmm.
Wait, I also remember seeing "A Man Called Flintstone"! :)

Star Trek the Motion picture was a definite response from Paramount Studios against MGM and their huge success with "Star Wars". Lucas had pitched Star Wars to Paramount and Universal. Universal would launch a suit against Lucas and MGM a few years later over "Jawas", which Universal claimed from Jaws...

Star Trek certainly wasnt the first and unfourtunatly it wont be the last...

In my honest opinion, Star Trek 2 should be considered the 'first' of all Star Trek films...Kahn kicks total ass and lead to story lines for other 4
