Angry Missy's Birthday Party - 4/13 [Archive]

Hi folks. I want to post this now so we get plenty of lead time.

I'm in the process of planning Missy's Birthday party. The doctors at the hospital have concluded that her new meds are working well enough for her to leave the asylum for a night. :)

The Place: Jimmy's Bait Shack

The Date: Sat, 4/13

Now, here's the catch...

I want to know how many people would be opposed to paying money ahead of time (anywhere from 30-50 bucks per head) which guaranteed them food, and a FOUR HOUR OPEN BAR at Jimmy's, which includes domestic drafts and drinks with house liquor. I'm not sure if this would include fishbowls and/or trashcans, but 30-50 bucks for an open bar plus food is not a bad deal at all.

Why do I want people to pay beforehand? Several reasons.

1) I don't want people showing up and then "accidentally" skipping out. No offense to anyone here... problems have happened before.

2) If we pay beforehand, we'll have a whole section of the back room all to ourselves, with our own waitress.

3) No surprises when the bill comes.

Let's say ON AVERAGE, during the course of 4 hours, you have 8 drinks. That's 4-5 dollars a drink, so that's 50 bucks right there once you figure tips and other stuff. Trust me, I've planned parties before, this is the most economical way to do it.

So, hit me with your suggestions. Who's with me?

Sounds cool, but I'll have to let you know. I am teaching a course on Saturday, which is supposed to end around 3pm. We have out-of-state visitors that may require some attention following this, so I'm not sure whether or not I'll be available until late.

there is no ill will with paying ahead of time, I guarentee it, and you'll get a little confirmation thingee with PayPal. If its going to be a big problem, maybe I'll just front the money and have everyone pay me at the party or something. I don't want to cause a big stink over funds.

And a word of caution having an open bar could open up a can of worms. People will be drunk++ to the point of not walking.

Missy, I'm sorry I fucked up. I went there friday thinking that it was the 13th. Someone had told me that yesterday was the 13th, and it sunk in. I ended up going into the city and thought everybody was plotting against me. Then I took my meds and it turned out that today was the 13th. My best to you on your birthday, missy.

You can get back at me easily. My birthday is on the 16th. Don't acknowledge it.
