The first instrument I got was an Ibanez 4 string ex series bass guitar when I was 12...
All of you guitar players know what I mean when I say that I could never sell it...
Let me know what the first instrument you got was...and if you sold it to buy drugs or get your girlfriend an abortion!
:)

Thanks Fallon!
my first instrument was a paino. but my parents didn't but it for me, they had it before i was born.

so, since they didn't really get it for me, my first real instrument was an accoustic guitar. i still have it, but it is way out of tune. so, that was my first, if you don't count the recorder i got in 3rd grade for music class.

I had a "hand me down" snare drum from my brother through elementary school, and my Dad bought his own drum kit when I was around 13 or so. He tried to teach me, but I'm right handed and left footed, and I basically just sucked. But my first instrument of my own, was a guitar when I was 16.
It was a Phantom, white strat copy, and came as a package deal with a 25 watt Gorilla amp. I think the whole thing cost about $125. It was a serious piece of shit. But I couldn't really play, so it didn't matter much. After that, was a Kramer Focus 2000 with a Floyd Rose. It was way too advanced for my playing level. But at 18, I got my baby. A black Fender Telecaster. Perfect guitar in every way. Finally, I could at least "look" as cool as Keith Richards. Even though it was a Korean model, it was still just fine. And 12 years later, it still is. I play it all the time and it still sounds great and stays in tune. I've changed the pickups and wiring more times than I can count, and have made custom pick guards, but the neck is still perfectly fit for my hand. The body has scars, and it isn't pretty, but it's my bitch, and I'll never get rid of it. I have a lot of different guitars, but that one is always my favorite.
You can see it if this link works.

A beautiful Concert Piano - a Steinway...
But my absolute favourite was one Christmas when I was about ten years old. I got an a Fender guitar.( acoustic )..I still have it. It's not named named "Lucille", but I love it dearly. Too bad I'm still a a lousy guitarist! :)

Thanks.

It's cropped from a picture of a typical setup I bring to a gig. Also in that picture is my Firebird and my Les Paul. Too bad you can't see the color of my Les Paul too well in that picture, but if you could, it looks just like this. Actually, that's what it looked like originally, but some idiot that owned it before me took out the mini humbuckers and replaced them with DiMarzio's. Ive since replaced them with PAF's. Too bad I don't have pic's of my other guitars like my Epiphone Sheraton or my Stratocaster.

the epitome of masculinity (yeah right)
My parents bought a piano for my sister and I to take lessons on when I was about 8 years old. I think I lasted about six months. It's still collecting dust in their house.
I bought an acoustic guitar when I was 18 and began to teach myself how to play. It was a cheap Aria with way too high action and a way too fat neck.
Of course, it's still my favorite guitar to play on and I wouldn't trade it for all the tea in China.

The first instrument I got was a trumpet, back in 3rd grade. We leased it I guess, and it's still in my parents house somewhere. I stopped playing by the end of middle school cause I lost interest in music.

When I was about 17, I suddenly got back into music and itching to get a guitar, which I finally did a year later. I just went out and bought it one day, and my parents were pretty pissed when I brought it home. But they would have never bought me one, so I think I made the right decision.

It's a Fender acoustic (DG 30-S), and it's pretty good. Real loud, action's decent. I've written a lot of songs on it, and still play it every day. I actually only got an electric last year!

All this Phantom talk is hilarious. One of the guys in my band has a Phantom, which we've pretty much forbid him from ever playing. We were convinced he was the only one who still owned a Phantom, the rest having been erradicated from existence due to their suckiness. The weird thing is that he also has a little Gorilla amp! Skidmark, your real name isn't Jason, is it?

The Phantom is currently shoved under the couch in my apartment, getting the care it deserves.

"Growing up ,i was a huge Black Sabbath fan(still am). Geezer Butler was one of my biggest influences, so was John Paul Jones(Zep). I couldn't decide what bass i really wanted. When i discovered Metallica at an early age, i was totally blown away by Cliff Burton. I thought the Rickenbacker was the coolest bass ever. So i had saved my paper route money for months until i had enough for it. It was the first time i had spent that much money. I bought a black Rick, w/ white trim at Sam Ash in Brooklyn. I believe it was on East 16th street. It's not there anymore. But i was around 15 years old when i bought it, i'm over 30 and still own it. One of the very few things i truly cherish."
3rd grade: Violin, it came with the Orchestra teacher from Hell...F-U Mrs. Yvette Benjamin.

Of coarse, everyone's first instrument was the recorder. I would LOVE for this istrument to make it to 1 rock band, or ska band.
How cool would that be?
http://www.eslkidstuff.com/images/recorder.gif
Look at the bright side, It fits in a backpack, they only cost about $5, they teach you how to play rockin tunes in school like...Mary had a little lamb, Doe a Deer, and Oh When the Saints come marching in. PLUS it comes in a cool plastic sheeth. Come on rock bands...lets get original and introduce the Recorder!!!

When I was in the 4th grade, I started to take trombone lessons. Everyone thought I was crazy, because you never see a girl playing the trombone. But I begged my mom to let me do it, because it just looked so cool. The trombone just looked like so much fun to play. The thing was so heavy for me to carry, that my grandfather had to drive me to school, on the days I had music lessons. I only played it for that one school year, and to this day, I regret ever giving it up. But, when you're a kid, you lose interest in things very quickly.
