Ok I know we have those of you that like to bury their nose in a good book. What are some of your favorites & favorite authors?
Some of mine are pretty much any book by Stephen King, Catcher In The Rye, & A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers

Piddlers and BJQ's do it better....

I love Stephen King, although I haven't read all his work. My favorite book of his is "Different Seasons", the collection of Short Stories containing the amazing "Apt Pupil". Extremely close second is "The Shining", which I never finished because I used it to kill a giant mutant spider who was smoking a cigar and taunting me. So I wasn't touching it after that.

As for my favorite book, though, I can't narrow it down to just one, so I'll start a list of the books you need to read, otherwise you haven't lived:

-Catcher in the Rye (Reading as a child, I fell in love with Phoebe)
-Farenheit 451 (Reading as a child, I fell in love with Clarisse. See a pattern?)
-Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
-Watchmen by Alan Moore (This is an absolute must-read. Mindblowing. I started and finished it in one day, I couldn't put it down.)
-Anything by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Survivor, Invisible Monsters)
-Anything by Tom Robbins

I've read so many great books that I can't remember them all right now...I'll repost when I get home and can think.

I have a demented reading issue...

I take an author I like and read everything they ever wrote...

so...favorites depend on the day for me...altho I will point out that Stephen King and Kurt Vonnegut are amazing...and lets not forget John Irving...

if I had to pick one....i'd say John Irving's Water Method Man...

other then that...on a seperate type of book...there's a biography of Disney that I read...I can't remember by who...but its him on the cover, pastel toned and wearing a yellow sweater (I think) leaning against a wall. Fascinating look into the beginning of Disney co. and Walt himself.

I forgot to mention "Brave New World". Huxley was brilliant.

I'll restrain myself from posting a thirty page post for once, though.

JUSTJON has a great pick in the Ender saga, but I've gotta go with either "Ubik" or "The 3 Stigmata of Palmer Aldritch" by Phillip K. Dick. Actually anything by Phil gets my vote.

books...i love them. can't get enough of them. here are some of my favorites:

pornography:men possessing women by andrea dworkin (even though i may not agree with all of dworkin's views in this book, she still gives a great analysis on the
industry men have created, pornography. she calls porno, "the graphic depiction of whores," and says erotica is just "high class porno" within the bigger male system of pornography.)

fortunate son: george w.bush and the making of an american president by j.h.
hatfield (ha ha dubya...you lose! this book was recalled when it was first published by st.martin's press, but fortunately soft skull press was able to reprint like thousands of copies of this book. even though i thought the book was damn boring it sure was very informative. if you want to find out about dubya's secret past this is the book to read. dubya...you lose! but unfortunately so does every working class citizen in this country.)

the giver by lois lowry (this book is a fast read. i first read it in 6th grade and till this day i think it's one of the best books ever written...and yes, i know i'm only 17 and 17 years is not nearly half my life but i'm just sayin'. the book is set in a community in which people are all assigned roles. people within the community see no color, they don't feel, they don't understand what war or love mean. the giver, who is like the leader of the community, is the only person that actually holds all the memories, he holds all the feelings, and he is the only one who understands what things like war and violence are, unlike the others in the community. arghhh...anyways, i'm just sad the author never wrote a sequal to this book because i've always wondered what happened to the main character, jonas. this book has a sci-fi feel to it...it kinda reminds me of invasion of the body snatchers, one of the
greatest sci-fi films ever made.

spanish and english dictionary by edwin b.williams (this is the only thing that got me through my spanish classes in high school. there's a picture of a red cock on the
cover.)

romeo and juliet by william skakespeare ("oh romeo you make me so hot, i'll
love you till death do us part," wait...i don't think that is in the actual play. sometimes i like to act out the scenes of this play when i'm super bored, but in my mind i'm the juliet and joan jett is my motherfuckin' romeo. hot.)

the girls' guide to hunting and fishing by melissa bank (this is just a funny book about a girl, jane, who grows up confused about love, the dating life, and i think men
in general. it's a really funny book and the ending is just marvelous...it made me
teary-eyed.)

the outsiders by s.e. hinton (this is the book i wish i had written, unfortunately hinton beat me to it. "nothing gold can stay." i got into robert frost because of this book. if you've only seen the movie you should give the book a try.)

the second sex by simone de beavoir (damn, if miss simone were still alive i think i'd be her stalker. one is not born but rather becomes a women...yes. yes indeed. i think her analysis of what it means to be a woman still stands today.)

outrageous acts and everyday rebellions by gloria fuckin' steinem (this book
just proofs that those who call themselves feminist do have a sense of humor.)

anything by elie wiesel, especially his first book, night, which tells of his experience at auschwitz concentration camp.

living my life by emma goldman (this is goldman's autobiography. it's a bit long but definitely worth it.)

fundamentals of political knowledge by i don't know who (this book gives a simple overview on how society develops. this book also tells the difference between a capitalist society and a socialist society. it's really simple to read and to understand.)

she's come undone (this book changed my life)

feminism is for everybody: passionate politics by b

I would pay good money for hygenic ball wipes. I like to keep my scrotum silky smooth.

I've always wanted to market a product that would keep the scrotum from sticking to the leg on hot, sweaty days, while offering the freedom and comfort one gets from wearing boxer shorts. I'd call them "Scroaties".

When I was in Sixth Grade my father bought me "My Secret Garden" instead of "The Secret Garden". It was all about a woman playing with her big hairy bush. I didn't find out until my teacher asked me to read a passage aloud.

One of my favorite books is "A republic, not and empire" by Patrick J. Buchanan

Well the last book I read was The Iron Maiden Biography by Iron Maiden. Its a great read, but I keep forgetting to finish it. Other books I enjoy: Anne Rice "The Vampire Chronicles", Mick Foley "Mankind, A Tale Of Blood, Guts and Sweatsocks", Stephen King "Christine" & most of his catalog, the halfway point in "American Psycho"(the book is pretty boring until the middle), "Of Mice And Men", "Night" by Elie Weisel(I had to read that in 10th grade, but enjoyed the book very much), "The Manchurian Candidate", & a lot of other books that I can't quite remember the names of at the moment, but have read over the years.

A Civil Action - Jonathan Harr I literally could not put this down. I read it in one sleepless weekend.

All the President's Men -Woodward and Bernstein
Blind Ambition- John Dean
After finishing these two (around Clinton's impeachment) Black bile and rage was coursing through my system.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -Hunter Thompson At the time I first read it, the most exhilarating ride I had ever been on. It spawned a genre of writing "gonzo journalism" and quite a few "pale imitations"

"Rule of the Bone"-- Russell Banks: Russell Banks is my favorite writer, and I think that this is my favorite of his novels. See also "the sweet hereafter" and "affliction" for some other greats of his.

"bastard out of carolina" dorothy allison: brilliant. moving. Sincere. this novel really changed the direction and style of my own writing voice.
