Fountain Sodas

Every neighborhood had a local Pharmacy that had a soda fountain. The kindly old pharmacist was usually called "Doc". Do you remember ordering drinks like Cherry Coke or Vanila Coke. Even the Egg Creams were so nice and fresh. It is too bad those days are gone

Well another day gone and the beer needs to be flowing again

In Bay Ridge, we had "Ice Cream Parlors", and damn, you could get sundaes, shakes, everything!
We also had "Candy Stores", where you could sit down and order an Egg Cream, a Cherry or Vanilla Coke and shoot the breeze with the locals.
It was also like a General Store, they sold toys, magazines, comics, candy, and those great soft pretzels that were stacked on a wooden stick.
I miss those places.

sad part is, they took those beautiful family run stores and traded them in for 7-11's and quick cheks, it sucks. and it is happening to eversort of business. Yeah, It is too bad those days are gone.

I also remember going to the dentist on Church Ave in Brooklyn and right next door was an Ice cream parlor. And those Ice cream floats particualrly Root beer from the fountain.

Those were special days.

Alot of the 5 & dimes used to have lunch counters in them also. You could get a good soda, shake, malted and a sandwich for a couple of bucks. Some would have balloons on a wall and you would pick one to get a special deal.
