I've always wanted to have a discussion with other wrestling fans on this subject.

I have such weird feelings about blading. On the one hand, the thought of it is pretty sick. The scar tissue created is not pretty to look at. The fact that we live in a society where AIDS is an issue lends a certain concern over irresponsibility among those who cut themselves. And just the sight of someone bleeding all over the place can be pretty sickening. Also, some guys with no talent manage to have careers just by ripping their heads open.

On the other hand, there's that part of me that really gets into seeing matches or pictures of matches with guys bleeding. I can't help but get charged up when during a match someone is juicing big-time but managing to keep fighting. Plus, if the heel is juicing because the face is getting revenge, I mark out.....Good, that Asshole Deserves to bleed, etc. I also get really worked up when a face is getting beaten down and left in a bloody heap, which I guess is the point of the angle.

This whole issue has me completely torn. I really want to hate the idea fully, because it's so masochistic. But it does get me more into a match.

Any thoughts?

BTW, forgive me ahead of time if I post more than once. I think if a good discussion gets going, I may be motivated to respond to other board members.

I think blading is great for a good match. My favorate blabe jobs were Tajiri vs. Steve Corino at Hardcore Heaven 2000. I liked when the blood went on the camra.

On the other hand the Sid vs. Goldberg from Halloween Havoc was too much!If a wrestler gets AIDS I wouldn't be suprised, especialy on the indies where they don't change the canvas at all.

It's a part of the business that will never and should never go away.

I approve of it if it's done right, i.e. sparingly and in the purpose of adding drama to the story being told in the ring. Example: Flair and Undertaker last night at WM X8. It added drama to the story, added a bit of intensity. I don't mind blading as long as that's how it's used. If it's occasionally done for a match, I'm fine with it.

Sometimes, though, it's used just too much, and I blame feds like ECW or CZW for this. I'll use an aformentioned example - Steve Corino. Corino has developed into a pretty good wrestler, but he's made his career by bleeding buckets, and his forehead looks like a road map because of it. It's unneccessary vampirism, and I'm not very fond of it.
