I grew up in a one-parent household in the 70s. A staple of my my diet was Swanson's TV dinners. Chicken parmesan, Macaroni and cheese.
Anyone eat the Hungry Mans???????????

loved the chicken, peas and corn were always sweet...
mashed potatoes good too... just never enough of each...
apple cobbler and brownie were good too...
but did you ever overcook the brownie, it was tough to chew...

"HUNGRY MAN" here. Those dinners were very popular, but I was always pissed off when the desert boiled over and got into the peas.
What about "Pot Pies"? "Mrs. Paul's Fishsticks"? Tater Tots?
Damn, we ate crap!

My favorite was the frozen "classic" turkey w/ stuffing, peas&carrots and some burnt shit in the upper right hand compartment.

I liked the Salisbury steak dinner and the turkey dinner. The chicken parm was pretty good too although I always seemed to get a tough piece of chicken every now and then. The only time I didn't mind when the dessert boiled over was when the cranberry dessert boiled over into the peas and pearl onions. And, yeah, those brownies always came out like bricks.

Now it's pretty much rice bowls and take-out for me.

Nice health violation. Seriously. They don't stand for that in New York.

Ouch !! My tongue still hurts from trying to eat the cranberry dessert first, that shit got hot. Salisberry Steak was the best. Gotta love a big hamburger with gravy on it.

I remember those things when they were in foil trays.... YIKES! I still have one from time to time, but I was over at my parents' place recently and went to the freezer to get ice and saw a stack of about 6-7 of them. Memories came back of setting up the tray-table in front of the tube and waiting for those things to cook in the oven for like 30 minutes. Then arguing with my sisters as to who got which dinner.

That stuff was lava! I remember back in the day when it was such a treat to have these TV dinners. Nowadays, someone would call Social Services if you tried to get a kid to choke down one of these things.

Alice, there are 2 great Krusty comments on TV Dinners from "The Last Temptation of Krusty" - but for the life of me I can't find them.

Ever see "Better Off Dead" when the Mom gave out TV dinners as Christmas gifts?
