Hey all,

What do you think about meeting up for some pre- st. patty's day fun this saturday at Jimmy's Bait Shack in Manhattan? It's a restaraunt/bar (under-21 - you might be able to get in if you go early and eat) that I think everyone would like. They have tables in the front by the bar and we could takeover. I would suggest getting there early becuase it gets crowded on the weekends. They also have shot girls pouring shots down your throat off the bar and taking pictures. I'll be there, hope to see everyone.

Sounds good to me.

But, the St. Patty's day parade is on the 16th and every bar in manhattan may be insane and charging a cover. I'm double checking my info, but I'm pretty sure this is what it is.

Belated Birthday gifts will be accepted.

Edit: I just checked, the parade is on the 16th. It is earlier in the day and it may not matter at the time we want to go, but someone should check with Jimmy's. Especially since this bar is on the east side kind of in the area of where the parade ends. But hey, maybe one of you ladies can score a firefighter.

EDIT - OK i found out the parade is on that saturday, and it stops at 88th street. Once again I am a dork. Is everyone willing to brave it, or should we meet up on Friday?

This bar is WAY uptown (in the 90's), so it should be away from the parade craziness (even though its gonna be like that everywhere)... I've never gone to Jimmy's and had them charge a cover, and I've probaly been there 10 times, so hopefully it wil lbe all good

the bars are soooo full on st pattys during and after the parade. get there early. pick a bar and stay there. the turtle bay bar on 2nd or first ave has this great irish band. it is hard to get drinks tho.

i will not be going...i sort of gave up the drink and have a hard time saying no to rum. oh well.

We should still go to Jimmy's Bait Shack! Its great fun, and there are lots of other bars in the area. I refuse to eat anyone's corned beef unless it is made by my 100% Irish Grandmother (no one makes it as good as her!)

Speaking of all this corned beef and cabbage talk... I found out something rather disturbing in my Irish Studies class last night. My teacher is this really old Irish guy like fresh off a boat and he says he had never even heard of that dish until he came to America. Apparently it's not an Irish dish at all, it's "American-Irish", whatever the hell that means. Another little-known tidbit he told us is why the shamrock is an Irish symbol. Legend says that St. Patrick was trying to explain The Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) to the Irish peasants but they didn't get it. Supposedly he reached down and plucked a shamrock from the ground and said "one plant, three leaves". Then they all understood and went and drank themselves silly or something.
