okay, i have a band and we dont think that local bands get enough exposure so im gonna throw some band names out there for yall:

Inside, The Miracle of 86, The Movie Life, Midtown, Blood Red, Dearly Departed and Thursday.

so anyway....if you have some bands you wanna throw a bone for just post it here.

movie life and midtown are awesome, im currently plugging my friends band from mt.olive new jersey, called hopeless... i just got their demo, kicks soooo much ass!

oh i forgot 3 other ones. From Autumn to Ashes, HopesFall and Poison the Well, those are all hardcore bands.

i need someone to help me out getting to know the long island scene, i used to be in it, but im talking over 6 yrs ago... i know all about the jersey scene but now that im back on the island, i have no clue whats going on..

Welllllllllllll, living on the island i can help yuh out!

just drop me an im. im almost always on during the weekends... there is a really good show tommorow afternoon featuring a band called dearly departed, this band has possibly my favorite lead singer of all time, Mike Malimo formerly of Inside. its in rockville center at a place called back street blues. you can find it as soon as you get out of the train station. funny you should ask. the name of my band is Winters Embers. and were an emo/punk band out of the south shore of long island.

Winter you should let people know when you're playing...I'm sure plenty of people on here would love to hear your band play...we can drum up an outing for it.

Most of the local bands I listen to don't play out anymore. My faves were my friend Tibor's band Sect.8 my neighbor's band High School Sweethearts and a band called Watsonville Patio....they still play out here ocasionally but they live in California now.

these guys are awsome, another local band is jersey's own Blind Society, they do some good old fasion hardcore punk, good stuff

another good band is heads up penny, from my home town, they just placed 3rd in a battle of the bands here and might be going to the skate and surf fest to play, but they are up against the stick figure suicides who are also very good and have a bigger fan base i think

Okay...I'm preparing to get killed here...

I've lived on LI for all my life, and seen the music scene slowly become worse and worse and worse...a lot of the bands are selfish and sabotage others advance. And even worse, most of them are pretty fucking bad. I don't care if you call it punk or hardcore or emo, most of it is just PAINFUL.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but there are too many bands here that need to learn how to play, or that have one talented guy playing as fast as he can while the rest of the band tries to keep up. Most of them sound like carbon copies of established artists or, even worse, flavor of the month bands.

This is what I've come to realize out here...besides the fact that there's nowhere good to play anymore.

That all said, I'm looking to get back into playing again...I haven't been in a band other than writing my own shit for 2 years, and I miss it. I'd rather change the scene than stay out of it, y'know? So if anyone's from out here, let me know.

i agree with alot of what you said bungle, especially the part about there being no where left to play. but i think there a lot of decent bands still left amongst the copy cats but alot of my faith in the scene left when inside broke up...so i dont know.

No offense, but Inside was one of the bands that fucked around behind the scenes and screwed other bands...and that sucks to say 'cause they were a pretty good band...but I know that as fact...

Have you ever heard Pretty Polly? I used to work with one of the guys, and they impressed me. I don't even know if they're around anymore...

anyone remember a band called "who cares" they were goin pretty strong for a while and just before they were going to sign on to a label, their lead singer pussied out,left the band and they faded into obscurity,,too bad they were pretty good,,they were also good friends of mine. I feel pretty bad for them because of what the lead singer did, they all have crappy jobs now and don't even talk to each other much :(

etown concrete, nj big collaspse, nyc (ex shift) saves the day, li the reason there are no good places to play anywhere anymore is because of poor attendance. people do not want to go to a show where people will intentionally try to injure them. example: an active member in the nyc hc community was recently stabbed at a shai hulud show at cbgb. this is extreme, but who hasent been to a show where some asshole was trying to hurt people under the guise of dancing in the pit? these people ruin the scene. venues wont book bands because of the threat of lawsuits due to injuries. and people wont attend for the same reasons.

mixband...there local but they travel all over the country as well...great band... their playing in Yonkers sometime this month...
This is a great thread, NO local bands get the recognition they deserve.
Everything is so commercialized (esepcially music) that it's already hard enough for GREAT bands to get any exposure at all... untill these Mickey Mouse girl/boy bands go away... it's up to people like us to spot these "local" bands" and create a "buzz" for them...

God put me on this earth to do a certain number of things right... now i'm so far behind, i'll never die.
