I have recently been informed by a very lovely young lady on the board that "dating" is never used anymore, that it's an "old person" word.
Is it?

im pretty youthful, here's my take: i use the word "dating" to descibe someone i go out with on a semi-regular basis, but without commitment, much like the term "seeing" would be used. i use "together" to imply commitment, very rarely cause it sounds lame will the term "going out with" be used the same way. usually no matter what you say you have to explain the situation to whomever your speaking with anyway, so i guess it doesnt matter. all that being said, i would say no, the term "dating" is not dated

i say "dating" all the time. i agree with mandrew, it implys non commitment. all though in tradition with todays slang, i say "going out" to imply a commited relationship which can get confusing when you say "were dating but not going out" people not hip to the slang would thing the dates are taking place in a basement somewhere.

I say "dating" is casual
"seeing" means relationship
and "going out" as the infamous no relationship just someone you want to be friends with
the epitame of masculinity (yeah right)

I don't like the term "seeing each other", i feel like i'm being suckered into something that I'll regret later. Honestly i don't enjoy any relationship terminology because it's too formal and leaves room for loophole. With that said, i want a legal definition for "seeing" and for "being together. In fact i wouldn't mind having an official doctrine detailing the rules and boundaries that can be used as guideline to clarify ambigious relationship.

Oh yeah, if somebody does create a thread for dating terminology to be used as a relationship reference, please call it "The Rules of Engagement", so it sound like an official document that could be used in a court of law.

I've definitely been "swooned", but I'm working on trying to "woo" someone. It's all part of the "courting".
