you're probably being a smart ass, but what the hey:

there is light in the sun. there is a spectrum of colors (which can be seen when there are rainbows) in the sun. the colors in the spectrum have wavelengths. the waves are a form of radiant energy. there are wavelenghts that move through the atmosphere. some get absorbed by gas molecules. the blue light that is abosrbed by the molecules (from the spectrum of colors in the sun) is then radiated throughout the sky, thus making the sky blue.

i think this is correct. this is stuff you learn in the 7th grade.

the colors of the spectrum actually reflect off of the blue water and makes the sky look blue, it really isnt blue at all but clear
;)

hmm, i don't think the water has anything to do with the light in the sun that gets scattered in the sky. but nevermind...this is a fun board.

a fun board with happy little trees.

The planar wave nature of light causes a dark blue ring around the earth as well. On a clear day, if you are directly facing the sun you will always observe a dark blue area from the direction your right ear is pointing over the top of your head to where your left ear is pointing. It is darker in this area because a significant percentage of the reflected light waves are in the same plane as yourself, the earth and the sun and cannot be reflected toward you.

I got an A in Astrophysics. Both semesters.

I rule.
