I keep hearing about MTV's new Reality Sitcom?
It's about Ozzie Osborne and his family.

Hey I like Ozzie as much as the next guy but Reality Sitcom.

I think MTV should try maybe showing
hmmmmmmmm let me think.
Ah how about music videos.

Does a cow produce milk?? Asking if MTV has jumped the shark is the same type of question...The real issue isnt if MTV has jumped the shark or not, but WHEN did MTV jump the shark. To me they did so back in the early 90's between "Choose or lose", and Real Worlds and Road Rules. I dont think MTV has had a solid day of music videos since Poison was popular...

the sad thing about mtv is that as it loses its viewers from its original days it gains the younger viewers who don't know any better.... as long as there are boy-bands, young female singers, and a staple show such as TRL. MTV will always have viewers.. it not MTV becoming worse it is them changing with the time. that is why they have mtv2, mtv soul, and mtv county channels because they know how they started and are still trying to keep some of it...

it wasn't so bad when mtv started running their first shows, like Remote Control, it was when the shows overtook the music.

I taped Colin Quinns "Back to Brooklyn" special years ago, laughed my ass off to it the other day. Made me realize how good mtv used to be and how shitty it is now...mtv blows

Here comes the obligatory Directors' shot...EGOMANIAC!!

Yeah, it jumped the shark a long time ago. I barely watch it anymore. I don't get MTV 2 either, so I pretty much never get to see any good videos.

MTV has only the following on it's channel:

Carson Daly
Real World, Road Rules, or some permutation of either (or both)
Videos featuring N*Sync, Britney, Fred Durst, or Some Rap Guy (If it's not Outkast, I don't give a damn)

That's supposed to be quality TV?

is this a new phrase i should know?

Q. What is jumping the shark?

A.It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it "Jumping the Shark." From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same.

The term "jump the shark" was coined by my college roommate for 4 years, Sean J. Connolly, in Ann Arbor, Michigan back in 1985. This web site, book, film, and all other material surrounding shark jumping, are hereby dedicated to "the Colonel."

The aforementioned expression refers to the telltale sign of the demise of Happy Days, our favorite example, when Fonzie actually "jumped the shark." The rest is history.

Jumping the shark applies not only to TV, but also music, film, even everyday life. "Did you see her boyfriend? She definitely jumped the shark." You get the idea.

MTV jumped the shark when suddenly they became as pop as Z100...MTV used to be a place where you could see hundreds of different artists, now it's the same 10 or 12 all the time...

And don't even get me started on the Real <Boring> World, the cancellation of Headbanger's Ball or Singled Out...

How scary is it that VH-1 is now the hip music channel?
